We love to gatekeep over here!! I really don’t care, BUT, some things are just too good not to share. Most of my recs are focused on the community, small businesses and personal growth… things I would never gatekeep. This is a random collection for anyone who gives a f*ck - updated whenever I remember to.
A little something from me to you…

I’ve been with Sol Health for a year now and I am about to transition to my third therapist (in training). That part sucked because you know your time with each is limited, BUT, for me, the change actually helped me stay focused and not too attached.
For $30 a session, pay as you go, it felt like a steal to me. It was super easy to get started and stay consistent. Everyone should be in therapy, at least before 30… If you do end up singing up, mention my name!

Raymond is the best! The best!! If you are learning to drive and able to get to lessons in the Canarsie area, don’t even bother looking anywhere else but MDS. I had lessons with two other schools before committing to MDS and I have learnt all the basics for my test in 5 lessons! From being terrified to even go behind the wheel, I can now parallel park 90% of the time and finally perfected my left turn.
Ray is an amazing teacher and his simple tricks give me all the confidence going into my test. Come back in September to celebrate with me. We’re about to be on the road baby!

Listen… if you live in New York and aren’t signed up to your local rec centre, you’re seriously missing out. Since 1910, the Department of Parks & Recreation has provided the most affordable ($100-$150 a year!!! 10% off with NYC ID) and extensive network of recreation services throughout New York City.
There are facilities such as indoor pools, weight rooms, basketball courts, dance studios, art studios, game rooms and libraries. Last year I started learning the piano and after 9 months, I played one of my favourite songs at the BRC recital. Whether you're broke, bored or just need a hobby that doesn’t involve your phone - this is your sign. NYC Parks really did something with this one.
Membership is also FREE for 24 and under! These spaces only exist because people use them - funding is always at risk, so, show up, support and help keep these community resources alive.

A library card isn’t just for reading - it’s a key to your community’s. Use it. I have been a member of my local library since I was 11 years old. It has always been my second home. I now hold the keys (library card) to BPL, QPL and NYPL.
These places rely on funding and the best way to show that we need them is to be part of the community. I’ve recorded podcasts at BPL, played chess with pros and requested books for pickup at my convenience. Not to mention, they offer free WiFi, clean public restrooms, charging spots and FREE entry to museums. Between this and the Rec Centres, you have so much at your disposal - go get that library card!
